Tyler
Walker Receives The Nod From Vision Racing To Drive Nashville
TULSA, Oklahoma
(March 9, 2006) - - Adrian Berryhill, owner of Vision Racing
announced
today the signing of former open-wheel ace Tyler Walker to pilot the
No. 37 Chevrolet Monte Carlo recently vacated by the unexpected departure
of Damon Lusk for the second event of the 2006 ARCA RE/MAX Series season
at Nashville.
Tyler Walker is
no stranger to the spotlight. He heads to the Vision Racing team after
a solid but unsatisfying experience in the NASCAR Busch Series driving
for Akins Motorsports (No. 38 Great Clips Dodge) in 2004 and 2005. Walker
has 19 NBS starts to his resume with a career best finish of 12th at
Memphis Motorsports Parkway occurring in late 2004.
“While the
departure of Damon Lusk was a shocker and unexpected downfall for Vision
Racing, we are committed to building our team into winning form and
we’re proud to name Tyler Walker as our driver for Nashville,”
stated Berryhill, a successful entrepreneur from Oklahoma. “Tyler
shows a lot of the same qualities that Damon brought to our race team
and we feel that he will fit in comfortably.”
For Tyler, Nashville
is a chance for redemption. “I really appreciate the opportunity
that Adrian and the rest of the Vision Racing team are giving me and
I cannot wait to get into the car,” stated Walker, who has one
prior ARCA RE/MAX Series start to his record at Lowe’s Motor Speedway
in 1998.
“I’ve
known Adrian for a long time and he is a great ambassador for Motorsports.
To have the opportunity to drive his car is a privilege and an honor
and I cannot thank him enough. It’s been a long time since I competed
in the ARCA series, but I am looking forward to it.”
Vision Racing launched
a successful campaign in the ARCA RE/MAX Series in 2005 with rookie
driver Zach Chappel and proven ARCA winner Lusk heads to the 1.333-mile
Nashville Superspeedway with momentum on their side after a powerful
fifth place finish (Damon Lusk, driver) in the ARCA 200, the 2006 season
opener for the ARCA series at Daytona International Speedway in February.
Both Berryhill and
Walker are working around-the-clock trying to satisfy sponsorship opportunities
for the first of two ARCA events at NSS (Nashville Superspeedway) this
season. “We are committed to run Nashville, but we’re hoping
to obtain some additional funding to cover the race expenses,”
explained Adrian who is exploring the option to enter the NASCAR Nextel
Cup Series later this season.”
“The Daytona
finish really took this team to new heights and potential,” continued
Berryhill. “We head to Nashville fifth in car owner’s points
and it’s a possibility we could leave there as the point’s
leader in the standings. That would be big. I know that Tyler has the
qualifications and the determination to get the job done and we couldn’t
be more proud to have him represent our team.”
Heading into Nashville,
Walker has two-top 20 finishes at Nashville Superspeedway in the NASCAR
Busch Series with a best qualifying effort of 14th (June, 2005) while
propelling to a best finish of 17th (March, 2005).
“I don’t
have a lot of experience at Nashville, but I’ve always qualified
and finished well there. It’s a unique track. I think it can be
a reality to qualify and finish in the top five on April 15th,”
remarked, Walker who has multiple wins in the United States Auto Club
(USAC) Series.
Despite forgoing
the first official open test session of the season later this month
at Nashville, the team is not worried and feels they will unload April
14th as serious contenders for the PFG Lester 150. “We’ll
be back to Chevrolets for Nashville and we’re confident in the
switch,” Berryhill commented. “Pro Motor Engineering will
provide the horsepower under the hood for the event and we feel that
we have a young and talented driver who can surpass our finish at Daytona.
The team is pumped and they are ready to win.”
Tyler Walker, a
native of Los Angeles, California is expected to remain in the driver’s
seat following Nashville if sponsorship is obtained.
Vision Racing is
still actively looking for sponsorship of the No. 37 Chevrolet Monte
Carlo that would allow them to continue to compete in the ARCA RE/MAX
Series this season. Interested parties are urged to contact marketing@visionracingteam.com
The PFG Lester 150
(150 miles/113 laps) is the second of 23 events on the 2006 ARCA RE/MAX
Series schedule. Practice begins Friday, April 14th with a two-hour
ten minute (11:00am-1:10pm CST) session planned. Qualifying is also
on tap for Friday (4:30pm CST) with the race set to take the green flag
Saturday, April 15th. The race will be televised on the SPEED channel
