TULSA OK
(7-15-05) – Vision Racing has announced a driver change beginning
with the July 23rd Pennsylvania 200 at Pocono Raceway. Damon Lusk, a
veteran of the ARCA RE/MAX Series and NASCAR Busch Series, has been
named driver of the #37 AmericashAdvance.com Chevrolet.
“We
are very excited about this opportunity and the possibilities for the
rest of the season,” said team owner Adrian Berryhill. “Damon
is not only a well known and respected driver, but also brings a wealth
of knowledge to the team.”
Lusk, in
30 career ARCA RE/MAX Series starts since 2000, has two wins at Atlanta
Motor Speedway and Pocono Raceway in 2002. The Kennewick, Washington
native also has seven top-five finishes & 15 top-10s including a
second place finish at Michigan Int’l Speedway in 2002, a third
at Kansas Speedway and Lowe’s Motor Speedway in 2002, a fourth
at Atlanta in 2000 and a fifth at Daytona Int’l Speedway in 2002.
Lusk, who had beforehand never raced on a dirt track, also won the Pork
Pole on the Springfield mile-dirt in 2000 driving for James Hylton in
his rookie season.
“I
want to thank Adrian (Berryhill) and the Vision Racing Team for this
opportunity,” said Lusk. “With the team’s past performance
and top-10 finish, and my previous win at Pocono, I think we have an
outstanding shot at a top-five, if not a win at Pocono. I think this
is the most focused that I’ve ever been.”
Tulsa,
Oklahoma rookie Zach Chappell, the 2001 ASCS sprint car champion, started
the season off driving for Vision Racing posting a career-best eighth
place finish in his first start at Nashville Superspeedway back in March.
“Damon’s
addition to the team in no way means that we are replacing our current
driver Zach Chappell, but rather, to enhance what we already have in
place,” added Berryhill. “Zach will be returning to the
car at Gateway International, Nashville Superspeedway and Michigan International.”
Vision
Racing has prepared a new 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with power provided
by Mark Smith and Pro Motors. “With this package, a win could
certainly be right around the corner at Pocono with Lusk at the wheel,”
according to Berryhill.
The Pennsylvania
200, which serves as the preamble to the next-day NASCAR Nextel Cup
Series Pennsylvania 500, is the 41st ARCA RE/MAX Series race on the
Pocono triangle since the series debuted there in 1983.
The Pennsylvania
200 is LIVE on SPEED Channel at 3pm eastern.
